Cini Boeri
“A perfect synthesis of technological experimentation and formal research, the Ghost armchair, designed by Cini Boeri and Tomu Katayanagi, represents the desire to dematerialise the perception of function in favour of the user, who thus becomes the absolute protagonist of the room”
Compasso d’Oro Career Award 2022

When the Ghost design was presented to me, Cini immediately said: “I know it can’t be made”.
At that time, that wonderful professional seemed to me like a small girl who wanted one of the most beautiful dolls; in the meantime, her assistant Tomu Katayanagi stood there wide-eyed and did not dare to speak.
Vittorio Livi
Ghost means shadow, trace, semblance, spirit, soul. Only glass is able to turn this abstract concept into a physical object. Making this transformation was the challenge met by Cini Boeri and her partner Tomu Katajanagi when they decided to give glass the shape of an armchair, i.e. a container that contained not liquids but human bodies.
Forged by Vittorio Livi’s technical and aesthetic expertise, Ghost, the glass armchair, was born. It was presented for the first time at the Salone del Mobile of Milan in 1987 and it immediately won a prize in a competition held by the magazine “Interni” inviting visitors to choose the most innovative product.
