a virtual journey in the Marche region, between art, design and innovation

From June 1st to 7th, 2025, the Marche Region took center stage inside the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka with a project that celebrated the creative talent, manufacturing tradition and innovative spirit that define this Italian territory.

Entitled “ARS: tradition and innovation”, the initiative revolved around the Latin word ARS, which embodies the concepts of art, craftsmanship, technique and ingenuity — a tribute to the unique know-how that has always shaped the identity of the Marche region, both in Italy and worldwide.

The Pavilion, designed by architect Mario Cucinella as a contemporary interpretation of the Renaissance ideal of the “Ideal City”, hosted an exhibition organized into four thematic sections, conceived to foster dialogue between past and future, tradition and modernity, culture and design.

Among the highlights of the “Connecting Lives” section — dedicated to the relationship between Italy and Japan through everyday objects with strong symbolic value — was the iconic Ghost armchair by FIAM Italia, designed by Cini Boeri in collaboration with Tomu Katayanagi.

Winner of the 2022 Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award and part of the collections of some of the world’s most prestigious art institutions, Ghost, made from a single sheet of curved glass, becomes a symbol of balance between technology and poetry, material and transparency. An ideal bridge between two cultures united by a deep-rooted artisanal tradition.

FIAM Italia is proud to have contributed to this collective narrative that celebrates the essence of the Marche region and its vocation for beauty, design, and innovation.

At Expo 2025 Osaka, the Marche region presented itself as a land of connections, where every object holds a story made of hands, materials and vision.
